Expert translation from Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese and Catalan into English

Translation involves much more than simply being able to speak two, or more, languages fluently; it is a skill requiring an acute awareness of cultural differences, how to tailor a text to a specific target audience, how to track down and apply precise and accurate terminology, as well as the appropriate style and tone, and how to implement vigorous quality-control measures.

What I offer are solutions for anyone who needs a document, communication or idea rendered into English, with this appearing to be the original rather than a mere translation. Not only this, but that when required, the translation in fact improves on the original. This is at the same time as ensuring the ultimate goal, namely the translator’s invisibility.

This can only be achieved if the translator meets two important criteria: they are a native speaker of English, and they are human (not a machine).

My main specialisms and experience include:

Legal, commercial and financial: including contracts, business and financial reports, EU legislation and police reports, official documents, HR and training manuals;

Marketing and PR: including advertising and promotional material, press releases and sales brochures, B2B and B2C, transcreation and localisation;

General texts: including articles and journalistic pieces, academic literature, personal correspondence and creative writing;

Editing: including revision, proofreading, copy editing, summaries and translation evaluation.

I currently live in Barcelona but frequently return to the UK, and work with the Dutch of both the Netherlands and Belgium (Flemish), as well as European, South American and African varieties of Spanish and Portuguese, in addition to Catalan. I work with both SDL Trados and MemoQ CAT tools.

I am currently member of MET (Mediterranean Editors and Translators), and of SENSE (Society of English-language professionals in the Netherlands).
